I have encountered this bug again, and did a strace this
time...  It appears to have nothing to do with the --root
option, this time happened in a chroot environment.

# rpm -Uvh autoconf-2.57-1.noarch.rpm
Preparing...                ########################################### [100%]
zsh: segmentation fault  rpm -Uvh autoconf-2.57-1.noarch.rpm
