what about this?


%_topdir         %(test -d ../SPECS && (cd ..; pwd) || echo $HOME/rpm)


sets topdir to parent dir if you're inside rpm tree
otherwise defaults to ~/rpm

this way you can have multiple rpm topdirs with same rpm macros file...
