Title: Doesn't convert into ..pc
Ticket ID: #720

Package: recode-1:3.6-1
Distribution: PLD-1.0.main
Category: doesn't work as it should
Current state: opened

Request: CHAR..:libiconv:..ISO-8859-1..IBM-PC/CR-LF
Shrunk to: CHAR..ISO-8859-1..IBM-PC/CR-LF
Recoding blub.tex... failed: System detected problem in step `CHAR..ISO-8859-1'
I tried to compare the strace output of a machine where it works (locally compiled version on RH 6.2)
After digging a little around (and comparing with a Debian box), the command
recode ISO-8859-1..pc blub.tex
actually works. Trying the "wrong" command above von Debian yields me:
recode: blub.tex failed: Invalid input in step `CHAR..ISO-8859-1'
This is much informative than "problem detected".
So there are two problems:
*)Wrong info in man page
*)Not so informative as possible error message.
And, on some systems it even works as intendend, so maybe it is also a bug in recode itself?
