This package uses pam_pwdb.so in /etc/pam.d/vm-pop3d config file, but it seems there is no this module in PLD. So it's not possible to auth with vm-pop3d for users/passwords from /etc/shadow. For virtual users PAM is not used, and pop3 server is working.
