What glibc was in that environment? Because all test other than with
glibc 2.12 are useless.

when I run /bin/vi, I've got:

Vim: Caught deadly signal ABRT
Vim: Finished.
Aborted

/usr/bin/vim works OK.

$ rpm -q vim-static
vim-static-7.2.436-2.i686
