It is possible. GNOME module in sawfish does that, but it uses bad path
(i.e. /etc/X11/applnk or something like that). The patch is trivial, I
will try to do it today.

First check this in enviroment with only new qt (3.0.x) and try is it all
what must be installed/changed. If it will touch anything in not so much 
biger area all from DEVEL ranches cen be comited.

All KDE version startin from 2.2 up to current CVS have a printf format
bug in artswrapper. Patch for this hole has been added to the spec, so
people using it should consider upgrade.

Note that in PLD artswrapper is _not_ installed SUID root.

PS. What's up with the security list? Does it exist? It isn't mentoined
on pld.org.pl.

No. wxGTK provides libs with SONAME lib*-2.3.so.1 now, and that
wxPython requires lib*-2.3.so.

Solution: wxPython must be rebuilt with current wxGTK.

We try slowly move from using apt to poldek as frontend on rpm for
managing packages simple because apt for rpm development condition is 
not good in last time and seems more than half year ago was stop.
This program seems need deep rework and noone want to perform this :>

managing packahges :o) [1]

Above oesn't metter at all if poldek also will fail by do not perform
checking avalable free size/inodes before install/upgrade packages (this
can be performed even before downloading packages).

[1] looking on ftp statistics on main ftp server poldek seems now is more
than three times offen used than apt :)

NO. This not problem with apt but with FHS package !

Another solution - we can stop supporting apt, because it really sucks when
comparing to poldek.

No this is the problem with my configuration and FHS package. 

I have /home mounted via automouter with NFS hence FHS 
is not bale to install /home/users and it complains.

One tool - one set of indexes and files for that tool ond ftp, and also one
stream of problems to resolve when they arise.

And can be solved by .. ?

If during istall package can't be written some file or created directory 
by do'n have permission (like in this case) this not only FHS package 
problem. Seems error message displayed by rpm also ins't 
clear/undestandable as it can.

sendmail sucks, so let's support only qmail? or opposite? hell, our goals

correcting my configuration. I should have done it by
making myself for instance /tmp/mounts and mounting everything there 
and providing links from /home/something to /tmp/mounts/something

The problem is  that it is a lot of work know to change it an each 
computer :((

I'm using apt because it's really simple, I'm lazy and apt still has some 
features, which poldek doesn't - show how much space will be taken after 
update, how much to download.

But using poldek not solve this too.
The Right Way [tm] is fix local configuration eg.:
echo '%_netsharedpath	/home:/mnt' >> /etc/rpm/macros

Support for netshared trees are added to rpm 2.2.8.

wow - it will solve troubles with upgrades FHS when cdrom is mounted... - 
great. 
%_netsharedpath /mnt/cdrom should be IMHO in stadard configuration

This also aren't solution. Scenario: /tmp/users mount point and 
/home/users symlink to this. During upgrade FHS rpm will fail because cant 
change /home/users symlink to directory :>

Seems on case like above we only can minimize some problematic "elemets"
count .. so probably also will be good remove subdirectories from /mnt.

Aprpos mnt .. it will be good have also some src-scripts code for 
autodetect fixed media and using some additional configuration parameters 
placed in /etc/sysconfig/system on somewhere aroud for generate /etc/fstab 
entries. IIRC something similar have MDK but it is written in perl so can 
be rewtrited to plain POSIX sh. This auto generate mountpoint and/or 
autogeneratate misc map for automonter can be also disabled/enabled by 
config parameters. Other solutin is using lik on Solaris vold daemon (IIRC 
it have Linux port so also can be used).

And another possible solution (possibly best) will be put in
/etc/rpm/macros:

%_netsharedpath /home/users

can you try this ?
If it will fail with above probably it can be recognized as bug in
%_netsharedpat handling code.
If it will work correctly it also cen be added some scripts code for add 
this kind entries in automonter initscript under configure/init target
(which probably can be also runed on amd/automout packages upgrade).

Possible next step for this kind operation can be add some rc-script
infrastructure for perform some automated/deterministic tasks (?). 
Autodetermine/autogenerate some maps for automonters or trigging
%_netsharedpath (basing on automonters configuration and/or plain
/etc/fstab entries for nfs/other-net-fses of autogenerate fstab entries 
for fixe dmedia can be first. Next probably will come ..

I have some ideas, which should be discussed.

1. Multi database cluster solution.

Before  you  can  do  anything, you  must  initialize  a
database  storage area  on  disk. We  call  this a  database
cluster.

In other words, database cluster is usually dir/file structure
under /var/lib/pgsql. Let's continue. :-]

It is impossible to create Postgresql *clean* multi database cluster
solution with PLD, currently. However, as many of us know, it is not
the fault of this RDBMS:
- every db cluster exists in separate directory
- every db cluster is configured with files in db cluster directory
  (pg_hba.conf, pg_ident.conf, postgresql.conf)
- every postgresql instance has its own pid file
  (postmaster.pid)
- every postgresql instance has its own postmaster options file
  (postmaster.opts)

So, let's simplify /etc/sysconfig/postgresql and /etc/rc.d/init.d/postgresql.

File /etc/sysconfig/postgresql should contain only one variable DATA_DIRS.
The variable should contain all db cluster dirs, i.e.

    DATA_DIRS="/var/lib/pgsql1 /var/lib/pgsql2"

All other setting can be set in postgresql.conf and postmaster.opts files
in given db cluster directory.

Above gives us init.d file simplification. We can remove all
POSTMASTER_OPTIONS stuff and even more.


2. Default behaviour, when there is no database cluster defined.

Currently, when db cluster is not defined, there is created a default one.

I think it should be changed, so there will be an error message that
given db cluster does not exist and exit without any further action.

OK but init scripts must allow work/initialize all in two modes: multi
cluster and single cluster. It will be good add variable for this in
/etc/sysconfig/postgresql.

Some usefull (probably) proposition on implementation level: IMHO instead
list in /etc/sysconfig/postgresql::DATA_DIRS directories/cluster names
better will be use subdirctories names in /var/lib/pgsql use as
cluster names if /etc/sysconfig/postgresql::MULTI_CLUSTER=yes

Where do you want put per cluste confifuration files ?

Let's make it simple. When DATA_DIRS contains only one
directory then it is, as you called it, in single cluster mode.

And my point is that there should be no default db cluster defined.
If admin wants to create db cluster, he does it with initdb
and he has to *configure* it, so it should not be created with
/etc/rc.d/init.d/postgresql script, too.
Creating db cluster should look like:
- create
- configure and add entry to DATA_DIRS
- start
and not:
- add entry to DATA_DIRS (set PG_DATA_DIR as it is now or whatever)
- start (de facto create and no configure (sic!) then start)
Where 'start' means running '/etc/rc.d/init.d/postgresql start' command.

Let's look at cvs by analogy. We do not create default repository, ain't it?

Separiation directiories, separation configurations seems done (in plan).
Olny was rest pid files managing. Proposition: make /var/lock/subsys/psql/
and store in this directory /var/lock/subsys/<cluster_name>.pid files.

And next: instead list DATA_DIRS better will be use DATA_CLUSTERS and use
in this variable not full directories names but subdirectories/cluster
names as list subdirectories in /var/lib/pgsql for each cluster and
as <cluster_name> in /var/lock/subsys/<cluster_name>.pid.

So in this model will not be distinguishing between multi and single
cluster postgresql runing (single cluster will be only special case
multi cluster with only one cluster runed/configured) .. :) (?)

Probably will be also neccessary extending
{start|stop|restart|reload|status} init script targets for allow operate
on only one selected cluster.

Please, take a look into your db cluster dir again. There is a pid file.
It is always created per instance in db cluster dir.

The idea is that Postgresql gives us everything what is needed to create
support for multi db cluster solutions. It is only our fault that it is
not working yet.

OK but IMHO will be better/logical use variable name like DATA_CLUSTERS or

so... now 3.4p1 is usable the same way as that we have?

AFAIR remember password expiry was the only thing that made trouble. 
anon-mmap was solved.

But with PrivSep enabled it doesn't allow to login nor change password?
(I didn't test yes, just looked at owl-password-changing patch)

And what about pam_limits?

Right, for password aging/expiry to work privsep must be disabled.

I'm thinking about adding account menagement to pam_limits for broken
deamons like sshd. Then normal, properly wrutten programs will still use
it as a session module and sshd could use pam_limits as an account one.

licensed under what terms. Same goes to ocaml-lablgl. COPYING file there
contains linking exceptions. I really know when to put LICENCE file in

So? Look at the LICENCE file. LGPL is only about library, the example
included in examplesdir is under GPL.

System works, I am quite happy as Gnome 2 user could be happy. :-\

rpm, glibc, poldek can be moved from nest/test to nest in my opinion.

ps. there is problem with compiling gcc 3.1.1 on athlon.
ld segfaults even in latest binutils - see nest/athlon buildlogs.
