When?
1. mv maillog archive/maillog.1 (delaycompress)
2. touch maillog; chown root:logs maillog; chmod 640 maillog (create)
('Immediately after rotation (before the postrotate script is run)')
3. SIGHUP syslog-ng (postrotate)

/var/log/maillog {
delaycompress
create 640 root logs
postrotate
/etc/rc.d/init.d/syslog-ng reload >/dev/null 2>&1
chown 640 /var/log/maillog
