okay. updating qt to 3.3.8 solved the problem [1].

perhaps kdeXXX should be version dependant on qt then?

(10:20:36) < qt on ftp is 3.3.7 and on builder is 3.3.8 - that's why styles are not avilable (styles were built with new qt)
(10:20:49) < try upgrading qt to 3.3.8 to see if plastic becomes available
