geninitrd still/again totally damaged and useless

pivot_root: blabla NEW_ROOT or sth
kernel panic


hopefully I got -old kernel and geninitrd-7982-1 (dated 2006) which
works with current kernel-2.6.28.8-1.x86_64.

Who's responsible for heavily damaging such important packages?
