Hi,

When starting system using kernel 3.5.0, then I am getting something around

    BusyBox v1.19.3 (2012-01-13 00:33:55 CET) multi-call binary.

    Usage: mknod [-m MODE] NAME TYPE MAJOR MINOR

Before that info that /dev/sda1 is missing and after some nice kernel oops.

Sorry for such lame bug report, but maybe someone else has something similar?

try to install udev-initrd, set USE_UDEV=yes in /etc/sysconfig/geninitrd and regen initrd.

I'm not familiar with triggers system used currently by PLD
bash-completion packages, so I'm not going to port it.

Looks like kernel 3.5.0 is doing something async way again and our geninitrd 
simply doesn't wait for devices to be activated.

geninitrd in svn should now always use minimal mdev from busybox when full 
udev is not enabled.

In the next few days I will be doing ftp maintanance, i.e. moving
packages from ready to main and from test to ready. Usual rules apply -
broken and obsolete packages will be removed.

There are few problematic packages that will stay where they are:
- glibc 2.16.0 (possible resolver problems)
- xorg-driver-video-intel (reported crashes)
- php changes in th-test (work in progess)

Fixes welcome :)

The current state of main tree will be saved as PLD-20120806,
old backups PLD-20120220 and PLD-20120405 will be removed.

In the future I'll do my best to avoid such big moves, and do ftp
maintanace bi-weekly for th-test tree and monthly for th-ready tree.

and suggesting to switch back by default to the UXA accel in ./configure.

UXA is obsolete. Upstream default is SNA now. Maybe for this mv we should keep 
UXA by default but for th-test SNA is better.

i have various i3/i7 cpus with integrated intel gpu and the sna doesn't work fully.

Do you know that SNA can be disabled in config?

no, this is way to specify proper upgrade path. what makes you think it

You missed the real change, I did not remove P/O for cryptsetup-luks.
I removed P/O for cryptsetup i.e itself, see below

Actually it does make sense in the case where a different package used
to provide something of the same name (and may still) but what it
provides is an older version. Without the complementary
provides/obsolete pair you don't get a clean upgrade path to the
package that should be doing the providing.

As far as I know this is the only case where this is necessary, but
there are several instances of it scattered through our packages.

I've been playing around with a script that generates a live-cd based
off of Th for a special purpose machine. I'm generating the target
file system using `poldek --install-dist`.

My current package set installs, but later in the script when I try to
run some commands having chrooted into the target, I get errors that
make it look like the package set failed to identify all their own
dependencies.

Is selinux currently required for all systems? If so why do no
packages trigger it as a dependency? If not, why does mount want to

binary that depends on library is not having +x bit set in $RPM_BUILD_ROOT

typical cause: lame cmake based build systems do "make install" which 
installs files with 644 permissions

simple fix:
chmod +x $RPM_BUILD_ROOT/path/to/your/binary

There's RPM automation available (if you wish).

	Write a script that walks $RPM_BUILD_ROOT and does chmod +x. Use
	patterns and directory paths to avoid false positive side effects.

	Add the script to macros to be run at end of %install before dependencies are extracted.

Its rather astonishing that years and years later that missing package dependencies due to
non-executable bits on ELF libraries needs to be discussed.

And yes: Fix the package(s) *.spec recipes if you wish instead of automating "chmod +x ?" in RPM.

Patches sent by Bartosz look rather simply. They don't really prove that
Bartosz has skills required to develop PLD. But since wolf already
suggested granting him RW, I assume wolf is volunteering to mentor Bartosz

Aren't you rather skipping over a number or relevant issues?

First of all, the user you are suggesting for RW access previously had
such access and voluntarily dropped it, publicly resigning from the
project. For a fresh user new to the project, bringing up their patch
history, offering to mentor and nominating them for access makes
sense. For a user who has previously resigned, I think we need
something else. Like a notice of intent from the user perhaps?

Which brings us to the next problem. This user has been banned from
the development lists for bad behavior, in particular a consistent
series of posts that people felt were trolling and non-constructive.
Since being on the devel lists is a requirement for all developers,
this seems like a show stopper for repo access until such a time as it
is resolved.

If you or another user with RW access would like to handle the
interaction with this user and be responsible for the commits, there
is nothing to stop them.

Before nominating them for direct access, they would need to show some
good faith to be in better standing with the community. Do they plan
to take any steps to fix that?

He asked me personally to give him a vote of confidence. He also
gained such votes from pawelz and vip.

Maybe I also shouldn't be a developer because some people filter me in
their mail clients? You are going too far. The ban is on the mailing
list access, not on being developer. By the current rules, shadzik
should be a developer, since he got the customary 3 votes for him.

Yes, we get that, you don't want shadzik to have RW access. But these
patches are not something that has happened overnight. They were sent
to the mailing lists regularly for more than a year, and I think he
should be able to apply them himself. I thought it was clear.

Quite honestly, that has nothing to do with the present case. Even if a
situation were to be considered setting a precedent for this one, that user
was not banned from the lists per CDG vote.

I'm not just making stuff up here. Quite frankly our rules don't even cover
this case, nor do I think they should be expanded to cover every possible
scenario. A little bit of common sense should be applied, and discussion
on the list is one way to start. Only if that fails would we need to make
a rule out of this, which would require a CDG vote. I'd like to avoid that.

That's not the same thing.

Just because you don't agree with the decision to ban him doesn't
give you the right to run rough shod over the whole thing and ignore
the problem as if it never happened.

I didn't say you shouldn't be a dev.

The current rules don't say anything about people who have been banned
for bad behavior. They don't even cover what to do when somebody gets
+3 votes but also collects several negatives. Hence the discussion here.

So how would you propose handling the fact that he's collected several -1
votes as well as +1's?

I didn't say that either. In fact I'd like to see him back IF a satisfactory
arrangement can be worked out where his track record for being inflammatory
towards other developers can be mitigated. Does your vote of confidence
extend to this?

Yes, but he resigned, didn't he? He left the devel list for a month or
so, which automatically should be punished with -RW (if not being on
the list is in contradiction to being a developer, right?), but it

Either you do treat people equally or you're being biased, which is,
again, in contradiction to what you said when being adopted to CDG.

And another question. If you manage to get new rules applied regarding

Ok, I chose the wrong word. Leaving the devel list should then be
treated equally to resigning from RW.

Just a heads-up, I finished cleaning up th-main + th-ready.
By the end of august I'm going to make a (reference) snapshot, so please
avoid doing package updates/rebuilds that would result in a dependency
breakage[1]. The only exceptions are KDE 4.9 and libreoffice 3.6 BR libs,
and even i'd be glad if KDE got into the snapshot.

Stay tuned for the updates about the future of PLD Th :)

[1] examples are xorg-xserver or  widely used library soname change.

1. Readding shadzik is an obviously controversial decision. Him getting a few 
+1s doesn't disappear all the -1s and all of the past history. This thread 
won't get you anywhere.
2. It would seem, per CDG vote, listadmin needs to give someone else admin

the multiple repository layout is problematic for some things such as
the code and commiter analysis done by sites like Ohloh

The slug.py script is able to automate the cloning of the entire
package set, but this does't work for the above. There is also the
flat SPECS repository, but this doesn't include all the code in
patches and supporting files. Also the commits show up as all being
made by one author "git".

Is it possible to setup access to the packages directory as a
repository with all the individual repositories listed as sub-modules?

I'm afraid ohloh might be overwhelmed by *all* the things you do
(just as it was when facing *all* the ALT Linux gear repos when
raorn@ chose to be bold and dumped my carefully chosen crop of
repos by a wholesale import that was later canceled by ohloh
folks due to DoS effect).

Might be better to feed it only the things *you* do, like poldek
and friends.

SPECS would be nice, too.  SOURCES are significantly harder
if one does care for proper credit (as in author/committer).

Digression.  You know that such statistic are flawed. For example the
biggest patches in kernel package are kernel-grsec_full.patch
kernel-reiser4.patch which are by 4 orders of magnitude large then the
typical patch in other repositories. And the authors of the commits to
those two files are probably not actual authors of patches.

Moreover it represents only state of master branch. It was thought as
tool to grep all SPECS not to generate statistics. So it is a snapshot
of all SPECS from master branch committed not more often than every 5
minutes. I can add commits in the real time but they would be authored
by person performing push. And it would be snapshots at push boundaries.
Change to boundaries at individual level requires a little more effort
which I don't think is justifiable. 

For statistic purpose maybe you will find useful
git://git.pld-linux.org/Refs repository. It gives information who pushed
changes to which packakge and branch.

Could the super repo be a static one or the actual sha1 of submodules
recorded in it would have to reflect the actual sha1 of branches in
packages? I'm asking as I don't know how your statistic tools work or
for what other purposes you want to use this super repo.

Their recent takeover by BlackDuck has given them a few more resources
and they've got a lot of stuff cleaned up. I don't think they would
give us the boot do to DoS effect right now. Unfortunately they
haven't' cleaned up their CVS import process and they've been trying
to get through our old CVS package repo for months now. They do keep
trying but headway is slow.

I see the reasoning, but I think poldek & friends can be their own
separate projects there. The package repo IS something *we* do and is
a large part of both PLD.

Code review dla *wszystkich* to bardzo dobra idea. Tyle, ?e PLD nie ma
na to mocy przerobowych.

It partially works. I wasn't able to build other packages documentation using 
texlive 2011 for example (we were once close to having texlive 2011 in Th but 
had to revert).

add, support for fetching a whole github organization, at which point they

IMHO, foiltex should go to separate spec. This way we could

It looked different from the commits, but I still like the idea as
changelog in package is cut down, and it saves searching for the full
log.

But there was a clear difference. But anyway my objection is not a
strong one - you can count it as -0.5 ;-). So if others like it I'm fine

foiltex was added after adding of bootstrap. Foiltex needed by a package as
I remember.

Maybe the bootstrap option isn't important. When I began texlive.spec on
PLD was only tetex.
When build texlive it needs some installed files (BuildRequires :)).
First "official" build of texlive used files from tetex. We've install
texlive (and remove tetex) and rebuild (without bootstrap). So the rel2
used files from texlive (not tetex).

I think it's unnecessary.

Hi,
On september 1st I will make snapshot of Th line, named 2012.
it will contain the current state of main/ready/test tree (with probable
exception of KDE 4.9 as it is not fully updated).

So if you know of any problems in current package set please report
and/or fix them.

Subject: Shortcut links to package files in git

I think it would nice to have some httpd rewrite rules to easily access
individual package files from git master (at least .spec), like it was
possible with CVS (SPECS/PACKAGE.spec or packages/PACKAGE/PACKAGE.spec).
Now one has to enter "tree" link and then search for given file.

Or maybe there are some rules already which I'm not aware of?

There is an alternative way to specify links like for example:

http://git.pld-linux.org/gitweb.cgi/packages/git-core.git/blob/master:/git-core.spec

But probably it is still too long for most people.

I have access to carme, but oracle.com download service requires fully
JS-capable browser (elinks doesn't suffice).

broken libwep buildsystem. host's flags shoudn't go for target cross-compilation.

Actually on ix86 host flags are used to get different -march variants.
Other flags have been filtered - probably now filter needs to be
enhanced.

Just to add which development version is used in particular branch -
which could helps in case we want to keep those branches.
Of course if we are going to remove them just after merging they could
be DEVEL as it was in the past.
If such approach is confusing I'll use only DEVEL for branches in the
future, leaving those already created as they are.

We don't use _noautoreqdep.

This patch brought also _noauto{priv,req}{,files}. Are these available
upstream now?

Too far here.
There is no pkgconfig support or other widely used way to specify
library dependencies (needed in case of static linking) - so *.la
files are the only way. In such case *.la should be preserved.

I guess in this case we will not want to keep 3.5.x branch because 3.6 will be 
stable and that's what we will use.

dev-3.5.x will be dead as soon as 3.6 is released as stable.

DEVEL for things like this IMO - that are needed for some time and then not 
needed anymore.

dev-3.5.x would be fine, too if it get deleted when 3.6 stable kicks in but I 
guess no one will remember to delete it.

named/versioned branches are fine for things that we do want to keep and 
update like POSTGRESQL_8_3 and similar

Looks like they are (lib/rpmfs.c:1089), If it happens they don't work I'll revert that
change later.

for mingw you should also force dwarf2/3 debuginfo format (dwarf4 doesn't work fully).

kde-4.9 upgrade is almost completed. there're few todos:

- split kde4-mutlimedia packages (http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.comp.kde.releases/5660)
- add kde4-sweeper package (+obsoletes for kde4-kdeutils-sweeper-4.7.x.)
- announce kde4-ksecrets ftp removal (buggy/unfinished/removed from kde).

Thank you for the great job :)

I added new packages (kde4-sweeper and kde4-pairs) and prepared split
packages from kde4-mutlimedia, but they need finishing up - could someone
knowledgable in KDE workings look into them?

This is not a single problem. List all kde packages which are not 4.9.0 or 
4.8.xx
You will probably see some 4.6.xxx packages. Now I understand why sometimes 
gwenview or some other packages crashed.
I have updated them manually, but it should be fixed in spec by author of 
rename change.

Do you remember by any chance what the offending packages were?
And please report such cases in the future.
