Linux is not an operating system--it's a kernel.
It's used as part of (a modified version of) the GNU operating system.

Most people call the whole operating system "Linux"--but when they do,
it doesn't give us credit.  You could help us by calling the operating
system GNU/Linux.  That would help us because it would help to inform
people where the system (as a whole) really comes from.
