From cwg-pld at deepeddy.com Wed May 9 22:55:26 2001 From: cwg-pld at deepeddy.com (Chris Garrigues) Date: Wed, 09 May 2001 20:55:26 +0000 Subject: Perl-RPM rpm Message-ID: <7769.989441726@deepeddy.com> I'm gradually migrating from a redhat-based configuration to a PLD-based configuration. I just updated RPM to rpm-4.0.2-12. I'm finding one minor problem. I've been using Perl-RPM and it now gets this message occasionally: perl: error while loading shared libraries: /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/i386-pld-linux/5.6.1/auto/RPM/RPM.so: undefined symbol: rpmError Since this only comes up when something is wrong, it's not a fatal error, but it is pretty annoying. I tried rebuilding the Perl-RPM rpm, but I get this: . . . gcc -c -I/usr/src/redhat/BUILD/Perl-RPM-0.29 -I/usr/include/rp -fno-strict-aliasing -O2 -march=i386 -DVERSION=\"0.29\" -DXS_VERSION=\"0.29\" -fPIC -I/usr/lib/perl5/5.6.1/i386-pld-linux/CORE -DRPM_MAJOR=4 -DRPM_MINOR=0 -DRPM_PATCH=2 RPM/Header.c -o RPM/Header.o Header.xs: In function `new_from_fd_t': Header.xs:192: `RPMERR_READERROR' undeclared (first use in this function) Header.xs:192: (Each undeclared identifier is reported only once Header.xs:192: for each function it appears in.) First is from XFree86 distribution and is open sourced second is from NVIDIA corporation and is only binary (ix86) nvidia driver requires special kernel module from NVIDIA (also binaries only for ix86) Marek From cwg-pld at deepeddy.com Thu May 10 18:52:15 2001 From: cwg-pld at deepeddy.com (Chris Garrigues) Date: Thu, 10 May 2001 16:52:15 +0000 Subject: en_US locale with glibc-2.2.3-2 Message-ID: <16713.989513535@deepeddy.com> As mentioned on this list yesterday, I installed the PLD version of RPM. This also required installing the PLD version of glibc-2.2.3-2. Now, much to my dismay, I get odd errors with RPM relating to locales: # rpm -qa rpm: loadlocale.c:221: _nl_load_locale: Assertion `idx % __alignof__ (u_int32_t) == 0' failed. Aborted LC_ALL is set to en_US. If I unset it, the problem goes away. If I set it to POSIX, the problem goes away. If I set it to pl_PL (can't imagine why it occured to me to try that ;-) , the problem goes away. If I set it en_GB, the problem returns. My solution is to change my /etc/sysconfig/i18n to unset it (I assume this is the same as setting it to POSIX), but as someone who lives in that part of the world that only uses the lower part of the character set, this was a bit of a shock to have to learn how locales work. It seems the best graphics cards for linux on PC are Matroxes and ATIs. I think they should also work on alphas. I don't like S3 cards and NVidia drivers & politics concerning documentation/driver sources. Helpdesk::mail uses an authentication module which is pretty much "right out of the book", "the book" being: http://www.modperl.com/book/chapters/ch6.html The code is based on Listing 5.6. The problem is that $r->connection->user is returning an empty string, which it's not supposed to. I'm trying to subscribe to modperl at apache.org right now, but they seem to be a bit slow processing subscription requests.
