php vs. http auth

hello,

i have problem with php (4.2.3-3) from pld and http auth.
when i turn on safe_mode this code doesn't work:
	Header("WWW-Authenticate: Basic realm=\"INTERMEDIAL\"");
	Header("HTTP/1.0 401 Unauthorized");
i only get unauthorized access.
with safe_mode = off everything works ok.

i thing, that this bug was in some older version of php.
