ungzip files that are gziped, and create modules.dep with depmod.

Are you sure you need your own kernel? Maybe it would be better to use
already packaged -mod.tar.gz files from PLD ftp? 

I'll be doing (as time permits) a script to setup environment to run 
mkinstaller with prebuilt -pkg.tar.gz and -mod.tar.gz files.
