What source are you using?
In ac-athlon it requires apache 2.

Works OK (double backslashes are for rpm - maybe it's somehow rpm
version dependent).
I changed grep '\-.*' workaround to grep -e '-.*' just in case '\-'
would have some special meaning not equal to '-' - but both versions
work for me (rpm 4.3 from Ac with grep 2.5.1-12 and rpm 4.4.1 with grep
2.5.1a).

No, grep doesn't anchor regexps.
