cvs update: checksum failure after patch to ./Perlbal.spec; will refetch

  $ cvs up Perlbal.spec
  P Perlbal.spec
  cvs update: checksum failure after patch to ./Perlbal.spec; will refetch
  cvs client: refetching unpatchable files
  cvs update: warning: `Perlbal.spec' was lost
  U Perlbal.spec

This started to happen quite a while ago, for different spec files.
Very annoying when trying to cvs up the whole SPECS or multiple files:

  $ cvs up apache-*
  [ 6 OK ]
  cvs update: checksum failure after patch to ./apache-mod_macro.spec; will refetch
  [ 4 OK ]
  cvs update: checksum failure after patch to ./apache-mod_security.spec; will refetch
  [ 3 OK ]
  cvs update: checksum failure after patch to ./apache-solr.spec; will refetch
  cvs client: refetching unpatchable files
  end of file from server (consult above messages if any)

(Now I have to "cvs up" these three manually.) I couldn't find the pattern.

Ideas?
