The second test release of rpm 3.0 is now available at
ftp://ftp.rpm.org/pub/rpm/test/rpm-2.92.tar.gz
(Yes, rpm-2.91 was never released due to massive memory leaks
and Linux World.)
This version is also available through anonymous cvs:
cvs -d :pserver:anonymous w cvs.rpm.org:/cvs/devel login
(no password, just carriage return)
cvs -d :pserver:anonymous w cvs.rpm.org:/cvs/devel get rpm
cd rpm
This version is available through Raw Hide. (Use only the
src rpms from Raw Hide -- gibc-2.1 supports glibc-2.0 but not
vice versa).
If you do install rpm-2.92, you will have to do
rpm --rebuilddb
because the database format has changed. You will also have to do
rpm --rebuilddb if/when you go back to rpm-2.5.x.
I'd like to get bug reports and patches, if possible, through
bugzilla:
http://developer.redhat.com/bugzilla
========================================================================
Here are 2 common problems encountered with rpm-2.9x:
1) --rcfile works differently.
Old way: rpm --rcfile whatever
New way: rpm --rcfile /usr/lib/rpm/rpmrc:whatever
2) topdir (and other rpmrc configurables) work differently.
Old way:
~/.rpmrc contains
topdir: whatever
New way:
~/.rpmrc contains
macrofiles: /usr/lib/rpm/macros:/somewhere/rpmmacros
/somewhere/rpmmacros contains
%_topdir whatever
