nowy gdm i xserver

Zrobiłem dzisiaj sobie upgrade i jest problem

Start z nowym xserverem (1.7.0.x i 1.7.1) oraz sterownikiem obrazu intel 
daje mi czarny ekran i twardy zwis.

Po downgrade xservera i wszystkiego związanego do 1.6.2 (tylko taki miałem 
dostępny) X przynajmniej startuje, ale za to pojawia się problem z gdm:

Na ekranie co chwilę pojawia się wtedy okienko z napisem "Nie można 
zalogować użytkownika".
