Problem z mysql

1. /etc/rc.d/init.d/mysql init wypisuje mi:
[root w demo etc]# /etc/rc.d/init.d/mysql init
Creating privilege mysql tables....................................[  ZAJETY  
]hostname: Nieznany host
                                                                   [ PROBLEMY 
]
Sorry, the host name is not configured.
Please configure the 'hostname' command to return a hostname.
2. WTF? Sprawdzam /etc/rc.d/init.d/mysql, a tam:

MYSQLD_CONFIG=/etc/mysql.conf 
Ciekawe, że bez my.cnf ani rusz.
przerobiłem na 
MYSQLD_CONFIG=/etc/my.cnf 
dla świętego spokoju mojej skołowanej duszy :-)
Dalej jest tak:
# Install this in the user table, too
        hostname="`hostname -fqdn | tr -d '[:space:]'`"

W shellu polecenie hostname -fqdn zwraca:

hostname: Nieznany host

Nie bardzo wiem, co dalej zrobić, może ktoś mi powie, jak powinien wyglądać 
prawidłowy /etc/rc.d/init.d/mysql?
