2.6.5 + vmware-config.pl

Temat piłowany już niejednokrotnie na tej liście, ale chyba jeszcze nie 
z tej strony :-). AC nowiutkie dziś instalowane.
Zainstalowałem kernel-source, kernel-headers kernel-doc 
kernel-module-build i inne bajery do kompilacji, puszczam 
vmware-config.pl, podlinkowuję asm-i386 na asm gdzie trzeba a ten wali 
mi takim tekstem:

Building the vmmon module.

Using 2.6.x kernel build system.
make: Entering directory `/tmp/vmware-config1/vmmon-only'
make -C /usr/src/linux/include/.. SUBDIRS=$PWD SRCROOT=$PWD/. modules
make[1]: Entering directory `/usr/src/linux-2.6.5'
Makefile:405: .config: No such file or directory

The present kernel configuration has modules disabled.
Type 'make config' and enable loadable module support.
Then build a kernel with module support enabled.

make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/linux-2.6.5'
make: *** [vmmon.ko] Error 2
make: Leaving directory `/tmp/vmware-config1/vmmon-only'
Unable to build the vmmon module.


I pytania:
Najogólniejsze: jak zrobić żeby się budowało :-) albo inaczej:
Skąd wziąć .config do dystrybucyjnego kernela, bo to chyba tutaj pies 
pogrzebany.
