FreeBSD, standalone, not running

I am trying to get solid pop3d running on FreeBSD 4.2-RELEASE and I use
the command:

spop3d -n Maildir -t maildir

and it never starts. I do a ps -ax | grep spop3d, and it doesn't show up
in my process table. Out of curiosity, I added a -s flag (assuming that
that meant standalone, instead of inetd), and it started. But, when I
telnet to localhost 110, it doesn't even connect me.

Please help. What do I need to do to get this working?

Thanks.

Sincerely,

Richard G. Duvall
