many moons ago i posted a question about using a pop before smtp auth method
with postfix and solidpop3d
i finally got it up and running using pop_before_smtp
(http://bent.latency.net/pop-before-smtp/)

note that you need to edit the script and add this line to the regex blocks
(which i've sent to the owner, so maybe it will be out in the next release
of the script)

my $pat = '^(... .. ..:..:..) \S+ spop3d\[\d+\]: ' .
	'user .* authenticated - (\d+\.\d+\.\d+\.\d+)$';

also important to note that you need to have spop3d configured with extended
logging (add --enable-logextend to your spop3d configure)

hope this helps or whatever.
cheers
mike.
