It's all about contrast. One must have well designed and set up position
to use low contrast (and thus better for eyes) bright-on-dark scheme. If
you have reflexes on your screen you won't see allmost anything, because
there would be more of them than flashing letters. The easiest way is to
use dark-on-bright scheme, so that contrast (between screen and external
environment, not the screen itself) increases.
Now think about using white background in dimmed room...
