here you probably refer to pld cvs infrastructure, where packages autotag are 
composed of VERSION-RELEASE (note that epoch is not accounted)

        auto-th-glibc-2_12-3            (revision: 1.872)
        auto-th-glibc-2_12-2            (revision: 1.871)
        auto-ti-glibc-2_11_1-5          (revision: 1.869)
