Proponuję raczej tak IPADDR="192.168.1.1/24" a późniejszy wpis PREFIX usunąć.

Ten adres to SDI, wiec usuń ten wpis, a w pliku /etc/ppp/options wpisz defaultroute.
Trasa domyśla ustwi się sama po podniesieniu interfejsu ppp (pod warunkiem że w
pliku /etc/sysconfig/network będzie GATEWAY="")
